The Adventures of Figaro is a high-energy, colourful riot of sunny-Spanish madness in which performers sing, dance, act and play their way through a 90 minute version of Rossini’s much-loved opera, The Barber of Seville.

This madcap tale follows a lively Figaro as he attempts to help Count Almaviva (his former boss) rescue Rosina (the Count’s crush) from the romantic sights of the doddery Doctor Bartolo. OperaQ’s Lindy Hume will direct her adventurous and dynamic new adaptation of Rossini’s much loved opera, accompanied by an effervescent new musical arrangement by Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s Craig Allister Young.

The Adventures of Figaro is a fast-paced, vibrant work performed in English is perfect for opera lovers and new comers alike.


Opera Queensland and Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University joined forces to present an eclectic pop-up experience showcasing some of the city’s hottest new musical talent, thrilling theatre shows and late night jazz. South Bank’s best kept secret, Studio 4101 is an imaginative space where the adventurous come to play.

Following its world premiere in Madrid and acclaimed London season, the latest opera from iconic composer Philip Glass will make its Australian debut in Brisbane.

With ingenious animated projections and design, The Perfect American imagines the final months of Walt Disney’s life, including mythical imaginings of Abraham Lincoln and Andy Warhol.

This visually spectacular production designed by Dan Potra and directed by esteemed international theatre director Phelim McDermott (Metropolitan Opera, Improbable Theatre), includes a stunning international and Australian cast, led by conductor Gareth Jones (English National Opera).

Featuring British baritone Christopher Purves as Walt Disney, Cheryl Barker as Hazel, Douglas McNicol as Roy Disney, Donald Kaasch as Dantine, Marie McLaughlin as Lillian Disney and Kanen Breen as Andy Warhol alongside the Opera Queensland Chorus and Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

To conclude this magnificent collaboration, Ben Wright will choreograph dancers from Brisbane’s Expressions Dance Company and Britain’s Improbable Theatre.

Mimì’s love affair with the poet Rodolfo begins on a snowy Christmas Eve in Paris on the cusp of 1914, a year that changes the world forever.

Project Puccini is a world-first initiative by Opera Queensland, which gives hundreds of Queenslanders the opportunity to perform in the chorus of a brand new production of Puccini's La bohème. It is a hugely ambitious project, working with communities on the Gold Coast and in Toowoomba, Ipswich, Fraser Coast, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville and Mount Isa.

Of nearly 800 Queenslanders who auditioned across the state to be involved in Project Puccini we have now chosen 36 adults and 12 children from each centre to join our cast of La bohème and rehearsals have begun.

The golden beaches of the Gold Coast will be transformed into the snowy streets of 1900s Paris, as Opera Queensland presents La bohème.

Puccini Project makes its first stop at the Gold Coast, as one of the eight regional communities involved in a world-first project that will give hundreds of everyday people the opportunity to perform in the chorus of a brand new productions of La bohème.

36 adults and 12 children from the community will ditch their surfboards and swimming costumes to sing and act alongside OperaQ’s principal artists and Queensland Symphony Orchestra musicians in a professionally staged opera.

La boheme will have two performances at The Arts Centre Gold Coast on the 9th of August.
